These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are expected to provide high-quality care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

GENERAL SUMMARY : Under the supervision of the Director, Surgical Services, and the Supervisor, Sterile Prep, the Certified Sterile Prep Technician processes all reprocessable materials, including instrument sets, trays, equipment, and specialty items, covering decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. Assembles surgical case carts and equipment according to departmental policies and procedures.

DESCRIPTION :

Duties and Responsibilities :

DECONTAMINATION :

• Separates instruments for washing and decontamination, reports missing items and malfunctions.
• Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty, and loaner instrumentation.
• Follows manufacturers' recommendations when indicated.
• Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items; prepares special items upon request.
• Communicates effectively within and across departments.
• Performs biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterilizers.
• Decontaminates patient care equipment from nursing units.
• Adheres to universal precautions and uses PPE appropriately.
• Inspects instruments from decontamination, reports issues for repair or deletion.
