Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision optical lens fabrication and assembly
- Develop, document, and optimize metrology processes for optical lens assemblies in production
- Collaborate with optical design engineers to ensure manufacturability of optical lenses and assemblies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on quality and long-term reliability
- Lead key manufacturing improvements including sourcing equipment and setting up related processes and procedures
- Provide day-to-day support for the production floor, resolving build issues, updating work instructions, and improving yields
- Interface with optical component suppliers to optimize delivery of product. Qualify new and replacement components / suppliers through the definition and implementation of appropriate test setups
- Create detailed manufacturing instructions, process validation records, and ensure adherence to precision manufacturing standards
- Develop and implement new manufacturing technologies and automation appropriately to support business strategy
- Design tools and fixtures to improve or streamline manufacturing process
- Develop manufacturing processes for optical components utilizing existing equipment and technologies or suggesting new cost-efficient approach
- Troubleshoot and root cause failure analysis of equipment on the production floor
- Drive continuous improvement across the manufacturing base in terms of process efficiencies, yields, production rates, changeover efficiencies, and costs
- Creating and maintaining project documentation and communicating information at project status meetings
- Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce process variability and ultimately drive down cost while improving yield
- Capital equipment review, planning and purchase to ensure long term center stability
- Maintain compliance with Quality related to medical device regulations and requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Engineering Discipline5 + years of work as a manufacturing engineerExperience with machine, equipment and process design, development, and deployment into a production environmentHands-on problem solver with the ability to work independently with minimal supervisionExcellent time management skills and the ability to balance priorities while working under the pressure of demanding project schedulesKnowledge of Lean manufacturing practices & principlesExperience with Root Cause Analysis TechniquesStrong analytical skillsRead and interpret engineering drawingsStrong written and oral communication skills across all levels of the organizationFamiliarity with ISO standards and quality systemsTrack record of managing productivity / cost savings programs and delivering on savings targetsStrong collaboration, influence, and change management skillsExperience defining and optimizing Bills of Materials and RoutingsBasic knowledge and experience in project managementDesired Qualifications
Knowledgeable in optical manufacturing techniques, including grinding and polishing methodsHands on experience in aspheric optical shopExperience with optical metrology equipment such as Optical InterferometersExperience with some machine programmingExperience with Statistical Analysis Software such as MinitabNot the right fit?
