Assistant Attorney General I, Tobacco Enforcement Section
This attorney will work as part of a team with investigators, auditors, attorneys, and support staff to enforce the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, the Virginia Tobacco Escrow Statute, and related tobacco laws. The attorney must be prepared to appear in the appropriate state or federal courts when required on both civil and criminal matters.
The attorney will collaborate with other states, the National Association of Attorneys General, the Virginia Department of Taxation, as well as law enforcement agencies on tobacco related issues. The attorney will execute the annual tobacco manufacturer certification program, make tax and escrow-related calculations and facilitate escrow deposits from certain manufacturers, litigate enforcement actions against non-complaint manufacturers, monitor licensed stamping agent compliance with state laws and litigate to enforce such compliance, draft opinions, respond to citizen and industry inquiries, and review legislation.
