An Electrical Estimator / Project Manager is a crucial role that bridges the gap between bidding on projects and successfully executing them. They are responsible for accurately calculating the costs of electrical installations and then overseeing those projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
The duties of an Electrical Estimator / Project Manager are diverse and typically encompass the following :
Estimating and Bidding :
Reviewing Bid Documents : Analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other project documents to understand the full scope of electrical work.
Quantity Take-offs : Calculating the exact amount of materials (e.g., wire, conduit, fixtures, panels) and labor required for the project.
Cost Calculation : Determining material costs, labor rates, equipment rental, subcontractor fees, and overhead expenses.
Proposal Preparation : Developing detailed and competitive bid proposals for clients.
Client Communication : Liaising with clients, architects, engineers, and general contractors to clarify project details and requirements.
Site Visits : Attending pre-bid meetings and visiting job sites to assess existing conditions and gather necessary information.
Vendor and Subcontractor Management : Soliciting quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, evaluating bids, and negotiating pricing.
Project Management :
Project Planning : Developing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
Procurement : Ordering materials and securing subcontractors.
Project Execution : Overseeing day-to-day project activities, ensuring work proceeds according to plan.
Team Leadership : Managing and directing project superintendents, foremen, and field personnel.
Progress Monitoring : Tracking project progress against schedule and budget, identifying potential delays or cost overruns.
Quality Control : Ensuring work is performed to the highest standards and meets all codes and specifications.
Safety Management : Implementing and monitoring site-specific safety plans to ensure a safe working environment.
Change Order Management : Identifying and pricing any changes in project scope, preparing and submitting change orders.
Client Relations : Maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Project Closeout : Preparing project documentation, including as-built drawings, warranties, and final reports.
Financial Management : Monitoring job costs, assisting with billing, and forecasting project profitability.
This is a dual role.
You will be estimating and managing all of your projects
Hours : 7 : 30-5
Salary up to $140k including 3-4 weeks PTO / 80% paid by employer for medical / dental / 401k match and gas expenses
