Gilt Barn Department Head
New Fashion Pork is seeking a Gilt Barn Department Head for its Round Lake, MN location. The Gilt Barn Department Head reports to the Sow Farm Manager and has no direct reports. He or she is responsible for overseeing the daily aspects of gilt production in the Gilt Development Unit within the overall Sow Farm, including but not limited to ensuring daily boar exposure, skip heat verification, tattooing for individual gilt identification, herd health and vaccination program, nutrition, isolation and acclimation of replacement gilts, and record keeping. Production targets may also dictate that AI take place at the facility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities :
- Assist and maintain whole farm production records.
- Determine cull gilts.
- Maintains department vaccination schedule.
- Maintains isolation / acclimation of gilts.
- Maintains unit cleanliness.
- Manage and maintain whole farm bio-security standards and gilt isolation barn.
- Manage and performs dead pig removal.
- Manages gilt inventory and gilt flow.
- Monitors department health status.
- Monitor environmental controls.
- Monitors semen delivery, inventory, and expiration date of semen.
- Monitor vaccinations and supplies for gilt department.
- Monitors 21-day heat checks.
- Monitors 42-day heat checks.
- Monitors 50-day heat checks.
- Organizes gilt scheduling, delivery, and movements.
- Oversees all daily feeding of animals and chores including, checking waters, gilt condition, building, and environment for department.
- Performs AI on gilts as production targets dictates.
- Performs daily heat checks on gilts.
- Routinely checks and repairs facilities and equipment.
- Assign individual IDs to gilts for future recordkeeping.
- Submit weekly accurate PigCHAMP department records.
- Determine Department Budgets.
- Long Range planning.
- Prepare feed and supply orders.
- Setting short / long term goals for gilt / boar pools.
- Writing department production manuals.
- Writing job descriptions for department positions.
Must have one year of experience in swine production. Must be able to read and speak Spanish and English at a basic level. Wage Range : $47,798 - $58,000, plus benefits such as medical, dental, life insurance, and 401K.
