Volunteer Police Department Position
This position is responsible for providing aid and support to the Northfield Police Department and to cooperate with other law enforcement agencies.
Patrol Responsibilities :
- Provides excellent customer service to all members of our community, inclusive of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, abilities, ages, national or ethnic origins, languages, citizenship status, socioeconomic status, and political affiliations.
- Rides along on patrol; responds to calls and / or emergencies to aid & assist ensuring protection & public safety.
- Assists in apprehending criminals and maintains a visible presence while riding along on patrol.
- Assists police patrol officer(s) in responding to citizen calls or complaints.
- Assists other law enforcement departments as needed.
- Provides security at crime scenes.
- Prepares necessary reports and documentation for purposes of recording your actions at an event or situation. Performs effective written communications and record-keeping at a 12
th
grade level for all aspects of the job.
Testifies in court as needed.Maintains public safety to community and / or public events.Assists in alerting police patrol officer(s) and / or police patrol sergeant(s) of possible criminal activity and / or ordinance violation(s).Patrols the City by foot in the downtown area providing a presence for public safety.Aids and assists in the event of a disaster.Effectively coordinates activities with other law enforcement staff.Organizational Responsibilities :
Ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with city personnel and the general public; maintains professional demeanor, tone, and conversations in all public areas of the city.Actively participates and promotes all police department activities, duties, meetings, training sessions, etc. as a team member and as assigned.Attends monthly training and participate in at least ten (10) events per year.Aids and assists the Police Department wherever it is needed.Maintains a high level of confidentiality and complies with all legal requirements of the job.Adheres to all city and police department policies and procedures and requirements.Proper and safe use and maintenance of any assigned City or police department vehicle, equipment, property, etc. Observes and practices safe work habits.Attends and maintains all departmental training and safety requirements to be legal, safe, and compliant with laws and regulations.Follows and disseminates all orders and instructions of the Police Officers, Sergeants, Deputy Chief of Police, and / or Police Chief.Minimum Training / Minimum & Preferred Qualifications :
At least 18 years old.A United States Citizen.Must have a High School Diploma or GEDMeet physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties.Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License free of serious moving or alcohol related violations or be able to obtain one within two weeks of hire.Hours of Work :
Riding along on patrol on shift with patrol officer. Hours may be irregular, involving nights, weekends and / or holidays. As well as those hours each volunteer has signed up for, any emergency call-out where the Police Department requires assistance. Ineligible for hybrid telecommuting work.
