MIG Sheet Metal Fitter–Welder
Weekend schedule : Friday–Sunday, 6 : 00 a.m.–6 : 30 p.m. (Weekend shift available)
A day in this role
You clock in early on Friday, review mechanical engineered drawings, and map out every weld—location, size, and length—within tolerance. You set up your machine per department manuals, fit and square the parts, and use MIG to join mild and stainless steel. Throughout the day, you verify dimensions, compare parts to complex drawings, and refine cosmetic finishes with grinding and buffing to meet appearance specifications. You wrap up by documenting work, coordinating the next steps with teammates, and ensuring the area is safe and ready for the next build.
What you will do
- Perform MIG welding on mild steel and stainless steel, including spray transfer MIG when required
- Carry out basic fitting : coping, positioning, aligning, and squaring parts
- Adjust and fine tune welding equipment per department manuals, including voltage adjustments
- Remove material and refine aesthetics using grinding and surface finishing techniques
- Read prints and inspect parts for basic dimensions; lay out components and verify alignment
- Inspect parts against complex engineered drawings to ensure compliance
- Assess weld beads for acceptable attributes and overall quality
- Identify material types (e.g., copper variations, stainless grades) and select appropriate process
- Apply knowledge of flux-core and shielded wire processes
- Execute tack welds and stud welding as needed
- Torch cut and perform arc metal gouging when required
