We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team in Raleigh or Greensboro and contribute to our continued growth.
Position Summary
The Senior Estimator at Sequoia Services will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale heavy civil projects. This role requires extensive knowledge of civil construction practices, including earthworks, concrete structures, and geotechnical scopes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in dam construction, mining infrastructure, or power projects, and will collaborate closely with operations, engineering, and executive teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects ranging from $10M to $100M.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and related documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
- Identify risk areas, scope gaps, and constructability concerns during bid reviews.
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, procurement, and subcontractors to gather cost data and develop work breakdown structures.
- Prepare detailed take-offs and develop unit costs using historical data, vendor quotes, and production rates.
- Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness, competitiveness, and risk.
- Support the development of bid strategies and value engineering alternatives.
- Present estimates and recommendations to senior leadership for go / no-go decisions and bid submissions.
- Mentor and guide junior estimators and assist in building estimating templates, tools, and historical databases.
- Attend pre-bid site visits and industry networking events as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).8+ years of experience in estimating heavy civil construction projects.Demonstrated expertise in dam construction, mining infrastructure, or power projects.Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, geotechnical practices, hydropower components, and large-scale concrete work.Proficient with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, InEight, Hard Dollar) and Microsoft Excel.Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical documents.Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings, or bid walks.Qualifications
PE, PMP, or Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) designation.Experience with Design-Build, EPC, or CMGC delivery methods.Familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project) for bid alignment.Previous field or project management experience in heavy civil work.J-18808-Ljbffr
