We’re growing rapidly and are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Data Steward to join our team in Newport News, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data management, data governance, and data science. The role will play a critical part in driving data accuracy, consistency, and integrity of our client’s data to facilitate interoperability and integration across multiple systems and processes, while also leveraging data science techniques to derive meaningful insights and support data-driven decision-making.

This position is located in Newport News, VA.

Your future duties and responsibilities :

Continuously improve data warehouse processes and infrastructure to enhance efficiency and scalability

Develop and implement data governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity.

Establish and maintain data stewardship processes, including data lineage, data classification, and metadata management.

Monitor data quality metrics and perform data quality assessments to identify and resolve data issues.

Maintain and develop data strategy to define the vision, goals, and principles for data usage and value creation

Collaborate with data owners, data custodians, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and maintain data integrity.

Validate compliance with data privacy regulations and industry standards.

Develop and maintain documentation for data governance processes, data dictionaries, and data lineage.

Utilize data science techniques to analyze data, identify trends, and generate actionable insights.

Provide training and support to users on data governance policies, best practices, and data science methodologies.

Continuously improve data governance processes and tools to enhance data quality and efficiency.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role :

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related field.

Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship and a Secret clearance are required

Proven experience as a Data Steward, Data Manager, Data Scientist, or similar role with a focus on data governance, data quality, and data science.

Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, best practices, and data science methodologies.

5+ years experience with data quality assessment tools and techniques.

Proficiency in data science tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).

Knowledge of Federal and DoD data privacy regulations

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Experience with data management tools (e.g., Informatica, Collibra).

Knowledge of database technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle).

Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to present data insights effectively.

Active DoD Secret clearance and IAT II certification (e.g. Security+, Cloud+)

Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship is required

Desired qualifications / non-essential skills required :

Experience working with Lakehouse Architectures

Experience with configuration management and version control systems (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).

Certification in data governance, data science, or related fields.

Ability to work within an Agile environment.

Experience working within Hybrid cloud environments (e.g. Azure, AWS)

Experience with DevSecOps principles and DoD policies related to the topic
