Principal System Engineer Location : Remote (Must reside in Hawaii; occasional on-site meetings required) At TEKsystems we are supporting a local organization seeking a Principal Systems Engineer. The Principal System Engineer is a strategic technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise technology solutions. This role demands deep expertise in software architecture, system integration, and business process alignment to ensure high-quality, scalable, and efficient technology delivery. Translate business needs into scalable technology solutions. Evaluate system options, risks, and trade-offs; make build vs. buy recommendations. Collaborate with data architects to identify optimal data sources and integration strategies. Participate in vendor evaluations and manage ongoing vendor solutions. Deliver Solutions : Lead technical design and development of application components. Create reusable frameworks and design patterns for application teams. Act as a subject matter expert in hands-on development and issue resolution. Drive Solution Quality : Define and enforce solution quality standards and development guidelines. Lead code reviews and software inspections. Contribute to enterprise architecture principles and standards. Team Development : Mentor and coach team members on advanced technical topics. Provide leadership to foster best practices and continuous improvement. Additional Duties : Review and contribute to business solution requirements. Participate in short-term planning and long-term roadmap development. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Minimum : Bachelors degree in a technical or business-related field. 710 years of experience in software architecture, application development, and systems analysis. Preferred : Masters degree or higher. 10 years of relevant experience. Professional Skills Minimum : Broad understanding of information systems and software architecture. Advanced programming skills and knowledge of distributed systems and object-oriented design. Preferred : Deep hands-on expertise in one or more areas : full-stack development, cloud-native applications, microservices, or system integration. Experience in healthcare technology domains (e.g., health plan management, clinical integration, interoperability). This is a newly created role with significant influence over technical direction and strategy.
