Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position in a teaching hospital with required floating across multiple regional facilities and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 28-bed Med / Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
  • Typical patient population includes adults aged 65+, with conditions such as COPD, CHF, delirium, dementia, UTI, pneumonia, influenza, and wounds
  • RN to patient ratios are 1 : 5-6, with possible surge to 1 : 7-8
  • Night shift position from 1900-0700, with every other weekend rotation
  • Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required within Region 1 hospitals, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division, and associated pediatric units as needed
  • Remote telemetry monitoring for patients with tele orders
  • EMR system is Epic; experience with BD Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing is expected
  • Free parking is available for staff
  • Position responsibilities include initial and ongoing patient assessment, implementation of care plans, and monitoring patient condition
  • Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary on day shift, 24 / 7 charge RN, IV / VAT team, code and rapid response teams, respiratory therapists, and around-the-clock hospitalist and intensivist coverage
  • Phlebotomy tasks may be performed by HCTs or RNs
  • Use of patient safety net monitors on all patients
  • Unit utilizes lifts such as Hoyer, Sara Stedy, and Air Tap System for patient mobility
  • Departmental orientation consists of NEO and two additional days on unit
  • Scrub color for the unit is navy blue
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 18 months recent Med / Surg Tele RN experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience with Epic electronic charting system preferred
  • Comfortable with PIV starts, IV medication administration, wound care, patient and family education, pain management, and care coordination
  • Ability to float to multiple facilities within the region as needed
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
