The Work You Will Do

Security
This position will independently inspect and monitor roadway work to ensure compliance with FDOT and safety standards. Verifies materials, enforces traffic control guidelines, and documents work for contractor payments. Conducts field surveys, supports maintenance planning, and represents the Department in project meetings and permit matters.

Your Specific Responsibilities
Perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verifies that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes and rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and / or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements.
Perform interpretation of governing documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation / placement and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
Prepares records and reports for work completed and other related documents accurately and in a timely manner. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors.
Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs.
Attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends meetings with contractors / utility owners / permits throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work documents on contracts as directed.
