We are seeking a 4-year degree multi-disciplined Senior Controls Engineer to design, program, and test our custom vacuum and leak testing equipment. The right person will have a firm understanding of PLC programming, industrial automation, and electrical systems. Candidates must have the ability to manage large complex project sizes with skills in both mechanical and electrical industrial automation. Candidates must be adaptive to various project sizes. Projects vary from complex turn-key automation machines to simple cost-effective solutions. The right candidate must exhibit the ability to be a quick learner and pick up the skills and expertise needed to be a successful engineer at LACO. The candidate must be willing to travel to customers for start-up and service work.

Description and Responsibilities

  • Passion for comprehensive system design, control systems, and machine safety
  • Ability to manage large complex projects with skills in both mechanical and electrical industrial automation
  • Adaptive to various project sizes and types; internalize standards across industries
  • Excellent communication with customers and internal shop personnel; work remotely and on-site to meet requirements and timelines
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and decisiveness
  • See the big picture while managing multiple details across projects

Skills Required

  • PLC programming and HMI software proficiency (Allen Bradley, Siemens)
  • Proficient in SolidWorks Electrical Software
  • Skilled in electrical calculations; ability to read, understand and create electrical schematics
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving on the factory floor, virtually, or on site
  • Familiarity with safety standards and wiring; knowledge of NFPA 79
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to program and learn cross-platform software per customer needs (including common PLC vendors, LabVIEW, OPC / SCADA)
  • Ability to write and interpret software flow documents
  • Experience programming in C / C++, Java, etc.
  • Knowledge of leak testing and vacuum technology is a plus
  • Experience in pneumatic design and general industrial automation
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Education & Experience

  • 4-year Engineering Degree
  • Minimum 5 years as a Controls Engineer
  • Job Details

  • Pay : $110,000+ per year depending on experience
  • Shift : Monday–Friday with some flexibility; participates in a 9 / 80 schedule (every other Friday off)
  • Travel : Up to 25% travel; minimal weekend travel
