Urban Forestry Technician

This position will primarily support the urban forestry workgroup that maintains the City's over 19,000 trees on City property. The position will also perform a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City owned property and its services. Laborers operate a wide variety of tools and equipment.
Examples of Duties
- Perform standard maintenance of trees, such as pruning, trimming, inspecting, planting, and removal.
- Landscaping tasks include planting and beautification of public areas maintained by the city.
- Custodial, facilities maintenance, and carpentry work.
- Repair curbing and sidewalks.
- Maintain, inspect, and repair the storm sewer collection system.
- Set up and clean-up of special events.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as snow removal, flooding from rain events, signs down etc.
- Support other City departments / divisions in the abatement of emergency situations.
- May be upgraded to Equipment Operator, Maintenance Technician, Sign Technician, or Crew Leader as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.1 year of experience in Public Works and / or construction industry, preferably with urban forestry.Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with co-workers and the public.Able to work under varied environmental conditions and lift to 75 pounds.On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, reporting no later than 60 minutes of the call-in.Class A Commercial Driver's License or acquire within six months of hire (in-house training available).If selected, successful completion of a background investigation (including fingerprinting), physical, functional capacity evaluation and drug screen are required. CDL holders will be run through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Clearinghouse pre-employment.
