Axio BioPharma is an AI-first Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) located in Madison, WI. We specialize in the development and manufacturing of mammalian-expressed recombinant proteins, with a focus on monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Our approach combines small-scale manufacturing services and data-driven Ai-models to accelerate development timelines, helping to bring life-saving therapies to patients faster.

Role Description

We are seeking a hands-on and adaptable Research Associate 1 to join our biomanufacturing team. This position will support both upstream expression and downstream purification workflows, flexing between roles based on project needs. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across a range of lab activities and eager to learn in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Upstream Expression Support

  • Assist with transient transfections in mammalian expression systems
  • Prepare media, supplements, and expression reagents
  • Monitor and document shake flask cultures and expression yields

Downstream Purification Support

  • Support protein purification and buffer preparation
  • Clean and assemble purification columns and related equipment
  • Assist in harvesting, clarification, and sample collection steps

    • General Lab Operations

  • Maintain lab organization, inventory, and cleanliness
  • Calibrate and clean shared equipment (e.g., balances, incubators, pumps)
  • Help ensure data and sample tracking is accurate and well documented
  • Support team with routine lab tasks such as aliquoting, labeling, and stocking supplies

    • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • 4+ years of hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industry)
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow protocols
  • Comfort working across multiple workflows and shifting priorities
  • Eagerness to learn new techniques and contribute to cross-functional team efforts
  • Demonstrated AI literacy : hands-on experience using AI technologies (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok) to enhance and scale key responsibilities through prompt engineering and context management.

    • Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture or chromatography workflows
  • Experience working in a biomanufacturing or CDMO environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment or lab prep tasks independently
