Facilities Worker

Under general direction of the Facilities Supervisor, performs various construction, maintenance and repair work to the District's infrastructure.

Essential functions include :

  • Performs routine maintenance, repair work and inspections of the District's potable water distribution system, including reservoirs, flumes, and various facilities.
  • Performs general maintenance and repair work at District headquarters, including HVAC, security, fire sprinkler and various other systems.
  • Performs facility construction, maintenance and repair work that includes mechanical, minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, landscape and masonry tasks. Assists with the estimation of labor, materials and equipment to complete projects.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, excavators, loaders, boom trucks, skid steers, mowers and wood chippers. Uses a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Coordinates and monitors work performed by outside service providers related to District facilities.
  • Installs and repairs service laterals, water meters and boxes. Cuts, welds and solders light gauge metal using oxyacetylene torches and arc and metal inert gas welding equipment.
  • Performs water distribution related tasks such as emergency and scheduled shutdowns, including notifying customers and other parties and / or agencies and ensuring District compliance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. Investigates, troubleshoots and reports leaks in the water distribution system.
  • Makes routine log entries on paper and computer generated forms. Maintains records, creates reports, and establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
  • Standby and work as an emergency crew (duty) person on a rotating basis covering nights, holidays and weekends. Emergency crew personnel are required to be able to report to the District's headquarters facility within 45 minutes. Employees on standby may not consume alcoholic beverages or be under the influence of controlled substances.
  • Performs related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications include :

  • Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. A minimum of three years of experience pertaining to the essential functions of the position is required.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license and be acceptable to the District's automobile liability insurance carrier.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relations with other personnel and promote good relations with the public.
  • Must acquire a Water Distribution Operator D1 certification administered by the California Drinking Water Operator Certification program within one year of starting work in this position. A Water Distribution Operator D2 certification (or higher) is a prerequisite for advancing to "E" step.
  • Must pass fit testing for an air purifying respirator (APR).
