Position Summary

The Director of Marketing & Communications is a visionary strategist and hands-on leader who drives brand visibility, reputation, and engagement to advance Girl Scouts River Valleys' mission. This role leads marketing, communications, content strategy, and public relations with a focus on measurable outcomes that drive membership, revenue, and program growth. The Director will ensure all communications are aligned with our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and racial justice, and reflect our purpose of becoming an anti-racist organization.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a strategic, creative, and equity-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of storytelling, brand strategy, and measurable impact. The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of marketing and communications experience, including proven success leading teams, elevating brand visibility, and driving growth through multi-channel campaigns. They are both a visionary and a hands-on contributor-able to set strategy, mentor staff, and jump in to write, design, or problem-solve when needed. A strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and racial justice is essential, along with the ability to craft culturally relevant messaging that resonates across communities. Compensation

At GSRV, we believe that a well-structured compensation package will attract and retain talent. Therefore, we are very competitive with including a compensation package for this position that aligns with like-organizations and positions in the area. This includes :

Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Strategy

  • Develop, direct, and implement a multi-channel annual marketing and communications plan that supports program, membership, advocacy, and revenue goals.
  • Set and monitor KPIs for reach, engagement, and conversion across campaigns, adjusting strategies for impact.
  • Lead strategic management of all communications platforms including website, social media, print, and email.
  • Integrate data-driven insights to refine strategies, ensuring audience growth and deeper community connection.
  • Creative & Brand Leadership

  • Lead creative strategy and brand storytelling that inspires action and builds loyalty.
  • Oversee the design and production of all key materials including the Annual Report, fundraising campaigns, recruitment collateral, and event communications.
  • Ensure all communications uphold GSRV and GSUSA brand standards while also driving innovation and transformation.
  • Serve as a thought leader, monitoring and applying emerging trends in digital marketing, content strategy, and technology.
  • Public Relations & Visibility

  • Strengthen public understanding of Girl Scouts as a leadership, workforce development, and equity-focused organization-not just "cookies, camps, and crafts."
  • Direct media relations, including proactive press outreach, thought leadership opportunities, and crisis communications.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with media, sponsors, and influencers to expand GSRV's visibility and credibility.
  • Team & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of five marketing and communications professionals.
  • Manage communications budgets, ensuring efficient and strategic resource allocation.
  • Collaborate across departments (advancement, membership, programs, advocacy, and operations) to co-create recruitment, retention, fundraising, and engagement strategies.
  • Apply an equity lens to all communications, ensuring cultural relevance, accessibility, and inclusivity.
  • Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong external relationships with sponsors, vendors, volunteers, GSUSA, and peer councils.
  • Serve as an internal thought partner to senior leadership, offering marketing expertise in shaping organizational priorities.
  • Represent GSRV in community and professional forums, advancing our role as a leader in equity and youth empowerment.
  • Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the council, GSUSA staff, and colleagues from other councils.
  • Actively participate in all-staff meetings, staff in-service training, and other meetings.
  • When representing the council to both internal and external audiences, articulate GSRV's desired image and position to all audiences.
  • Actively support the council's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, racial justice, and anti-racism. Conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Contribute to building a cohesive, flexible, and productive staff environment that demonstrates the values and mission of Girl Scouts and delivers high-quality customer service.
