MRI Technologist
INTRODUCTION
This position is located in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist located in the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center, Radiology & Imaging Sciences department. The incumbent performs complex clinical and research MRI procedures on patients and may be asked to participate in the design and evaluation of new imaging methods and techniques. The incumbent must perform at a technical level not requiring supervision. Technologist may be asked to become a team leader and direct work of others occasionally.
MAJOR DUTIES
The incumbent is an active, essential participant in MRI imaging. Regarding the planning and design of clinical and research experiments, the MR technologist may have significant input into the design of new research protocols particularly regarding the allocation of staffing and equipment, sufficiency of equipment and computer software and the impact of new methods on other protocols and techniques, recommends techniques for streamlining and improving clinical and research methods. Incumbent may be asked to perform exams in the operating room during surgery.

Works under the daily direction of the lead technologist in the modality area with administrative supervision by the chief technologist. Works closely and confers with radiologists and medical officers on a collaborative basis on complex assignments requiring special techniques. Work is evaluated for overall quality. Assignments are made in the form of work schedules and verbal instruction.

Complexity
The department may be engaged in development of new diagnostic procedures of which the technologist may play an important role.
The MRI research program develops in vivo imaging and research procedures for the study of the spectrum of normal and pathological conditions in the brain and the body.
Need of Department / Requirement
Two (2), Full-time diagnostic radiologic technologists (MRI) who will work Monday-Friday, 10 : 00am-6 : 30pm. No on-call or holiday hours required.
Scope and Effect
The purpose of the work is to execute both clinical and research studies within the Radiology & Imaging Sciences in order to provide detailed images of relevant anatomy, physiology and biochemistry for a variety of diseases and clinical problems. Technical procedures developed in the course of this research can potentially have a profound effect on the research directions and clinical applications of MRI. Careful and knowledgeable application of these techniques is necessary in order to produce high quality clinical and research data. This may lead to early detection and a more detailed understanding of a wide variety of disease processes.
Significant contributions to these projects are recognized in scientific papers.
Qualifications
Experience :
Minimum of two years experience as a registered MRI technologist
Certificate / License : ARRT registered MRI registry
