Macdonald & Company is exclusively partnered with a thriving Austin-based developer and investor that is expanding its platform through the launch of a dedicated Multifamily Acquisitions vertical.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high-growth, vertically integrated real estate firm at a pivotal stage of expansion. The successful candidate will lead sourcing, underwriting, and execution efforts across Texas and the broader Sunbelt, while helping to shape strategy, build internal processes, and foster a collaborative culture within a newly formed business unit.

The Vice President of Multifamily Acquisitions will play a key leadership role in defining and executing the company’s acquisition strategy and driving the next phase of the firm’s multifamily growth.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the origination, underwriting, and execution of multifamily acquisition opportunities.
  • Proactively source, evaluate, and manage a robust pipeline of deals across target markets.
  • Partner with company leadership to refine and execute the multifamily acquisition strategy, including :
  • Defining the acquisition “Buy Box.”
  • Identifying suitable deal profiles for potential equity partners.
  • Aligning on capital structure and debt strategies.
  • Oversee all aspects of due diligence — financial analysis, market research, cash flow modeling, and valuation — to support investment recommendations and presentations to the Investment Committee and capital partners.
  • Manage the transaction process through due diligence and closing, coordinating among sellers, JV partners, legal counsel, contractors, and internal teams to ensure a seamless process.
  • Collaborate with internal departments — including Interior Design, Capital Markets, Asset Management, Construction, and Marketing — to craft and execute business plans for each acquisition.
  • Travel to target markets for property tours, meetings with owners and brokers, and participation in industry events and conferences.
  • Stay current on market trends, deal flow, and competitor activity through ongoing research and networking.
  • Support company leadership in fostering a positive, entrepreneurial, and high-performing culture as the firm scales its multifamily platform.
  • Manage, mentor, and train team members on financial modeling, market research, and other acquisition-related functions.
  • Represent the company professionally at industry, civic, and public events.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information.
  • Bring a collaborative, team-first approach to everything you do.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in multifamily acquisitions and / or development, with a strong record of identifying, underwriting, and closing successful transactions.
  • Deep understanding of multifamily markets, investment strategy, capital markets, and deal structuring.
  • Proven ability to leverage a well-established network within the Austin real estate community to identify opportunities and build partnerships.
  • Exceptional financial modeling and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate complex data into clear recommendations.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Self-starter with an ownership mindset and the drive to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for helping build and scale a dynamic platform alongside accomplished partners.
  • Must be based in Austin, Texas or willing to relocate, with an in-depth understanding of its multifamily landscape.
