The PME Instructor supports the delivery of Professional Military Education (PME) courses in accordance with established Programs of Instruction (POI). This position involves teaching resident and / or distance learning cohorts, assessing student progress, and contributing to curriculum maintenance using the Systems Approach to Training (SAT). The ideal candidate brings military experience, strong instructional skills, and the ability to engage adult learners in strategic, operational, and leadership education. The instructor will uphold academic rigor while fostering a respectful and mission-focused classroom environment.

Responsibilities

Instruction and Facilitation :

  • Deliver content in accordance with approved POIs, lesson plans, and courseware.
  • Facilitate learning using structured adult learning techniques and student-centered strategies.
  • Lead academic discussions, exercises, and group activities to reinforce learning objectives.
  • Maintain a professional and inclusive classroom dynamic that supports student engagement.

Assessment and Evaluation :

  • Evaluate student performance using written assessments, class participation, and course deliverables.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support learner development.
  • Maintain accurate academic records in accordance with institutional or contract requirements.
  • Curriculum and Course Support :

  • Participate in curriculum reviews and assist in updating lesson content to reflect current doctrine and operational realities.
  • Apply the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) methodology to recommend improvements or enhancements to learning materials.
  • Support the development or revision of training support packages (TSPs) and instructor guides.
  • Quality Assurance and Certification :

  • Complete required instructor certification or qualification programs based on the course or organization supported.
  • Participate in peer and supervisory evaluations to ensure instructional effectiveness and consistency.
  • Support compliance with applicable standards, including DoD-mandated training (e.g., OPSEC, Anti-Terrorism Level I).
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (required); master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year teaching in a military, collegiate, or adult learning environment.
  • Completion of recognized instructor development training (e.g., CFD-IC, FDP-1, SGIC, or equivalent).
  • Experience delivering leadership, operational planning, or strategic studies content.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both in-person and remote learning environments.
  • Must complete all required compliance training within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of U.S. military PME programs such as Intermediate Level Education (ILE), Command and General Staff College (CGSC), or equivalent.
  • Experience with curriculum development or training modernization.
  • Professional certifications in education, instructional design, or leadership development.
  • Work Environment and Conditions

    This position may be performed on-site at military or academic training centers, or in a hybrid format depending on contract requirements. Occasional travel may be required for training coordination, evaluations, or instructor workshops. The role requires a professional demeanor, adaptability to structured learning environments, and a commitment to educational excellence in support of the military learner.
