About the School of Biological Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The School of Biological Sciences Undergraduate degree programs include 4-year BS and 5-year BS / MS programs in Biology and Bioinformatics. Graduate degree programs include : MS and PhD in Biology, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics, MS and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering as well as PhD in Quantitative Biosciences, Ocean Sciences and Engineering, Applied Physiology, and Dual Degree Doctor of Physical Therapy / Doctor of Philosophy. Research strengths include : Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Ecology, Evolution, Integrative Physiology, Microbial Dynamics and Infection, Neuroscience, Molecular and Cell Biology, Molecular Biomedical Sciences. The School is home to the two largest undergraduate majors in the College of Sciences : Biology and Neuroscience. Job Summary

The School of Biological Sciences is seeking to hire a Research Scientist II (RSII) to conduct research on an NIH-funded project that has the major goal of characterizing the biomechanics and motor control of locomotion after post-traumatic osteoarthritis. The work will require at least one year of experience working with a biomedical rat model of PTOA and operating a biplanar high-speed fluoroscopy system

Responsibilities

Research Scientist II

1. Mentoring PhD Students

The role will involve regular mentorship of PhD students, including weekly one-on-one meetings to discuss and troubleshoot experiments, monitor progress, and provide guidance. A summary of each meeting will be shared and discussed with Dr. Young Hui Chang

2. Grant and Fellowship Writing

The position includes leading the preparation of grant proposals and fellowship applications to various funding agencies (e.g., NIH.) Responsibilities include gathering data, reviewing relevant literature, and drafting full proposals with accompanying figures and references.

3. Manuscript Preparation and Publication Support

The Research Scientist will assist PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in writing and organizing manuscripts for publication. This includes summarizing results, structuring content, and supporting the submission and revision process.

4. Laboratory Support and Collaboration

The applicant is expected to provide hands-on support to students and postdocs in the lab on a daily basis. Physical presence in the lab during core working hours is required, fostering a collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications

Research Scientist

A Doctoral degree (Biomedical Sciences or Bioengineering) and (3) years of relevant Postdoctoral full-time experience
