The intern will receive training and perform duties in support of professional personnel within an assigned department or division of the City. The nature of the work is based on degree program and organizational need. Interns will acquire knowledge of methods, procedures, and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department / division.

To qualify, applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED. They must have completed 48 quarter hours or 32 semester hours and be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited college or university in a related field. The position is classified, and internships are offered on an ongoing basis depending on departmental needs. Applications will remain on file for one year. Required documents include a writing sample and an official transcript from the school currently attended. Departments may request specific coursework or degrees. To increase the likelihood of being selected for an interview, applicants should submit a complete application including college transcripts.

Students must maintain enrollment in a degree-seeking program to remain eligible for employment. Participation in a goal-setting session with the designated coordinator, following the department work plan, and completing all assignments in a timely and satisfactory manner are also necessary. Interns must participate in all evaluation sessions, including the end of program evaluation and an exit interview.
