Secure Care Treatment Aides care for patients with severe and persistent mental illness within an OMH secure intensive treatment unit or forensic facility. Additional duties include :
- Observe and monitor patients
- Apply therapeutic techniques to stabilize patients
- Record notes on patient behaviors
- Apply physical restrains to patients as ordered by physician
- Maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program as a Secure Care Treatment Aide 1 (SCTA 1) if they have a high school diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or similar equivalency such as a General Education Development (GED) Certification or higher degree.
OR
Candidates within State Service can be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b / 55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for ISU ($47,695), an Increase Hiring Rate ($6,144) and Geographic Pay Differential ($4,000).
