Payroll Specialist

Salary : $55,000 - $59,000, with regular merit-based increases

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and growth-minded Payroll Specialist to join a close-knit, collaborative payroll team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where learning is encouraged, questions are welcomed, and teamwork is central to success. The ideal candidate will be comfortable navigating multiple systems, reconciling complex timesheets, and supporting employees across various states and pay groups.

Key Responsibilities

As a Payroll Specialist , you will be responsible for the following core functions :

Biweekly Payroll Processing (Approx. 75% of time on Mondays) :

Export time data from external systems

  • Pull and reconcile reports
  • Collaborate with HR and supervisors to resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare payroll batches and conduct final reviews

Timesheet Management and Analytics :

Enter and revise timesheets during payroll weeks

  • Perform detailed reconciliations and analytics using Excel
  • Ensure accuracy across multiple pay groups and state-specific requirements
  • Employee and Supervisor Support :

    Respond to inquiries regarding payroll, terminations, referral bonuses, and expense reimbursements

  • Calculate final payouts and assist with administrative tasks during non-payroll weeks
  • Onboarding and HRIS Coordination :

    Assist HR with onboarding tasks in UKG, including GL cost center updates, direct deposit validations, and tax adjustments

  • Support new hire setup and ensure payroll readiness
  • Qualifications

    To thrive as a Payroll Specialist , candidates should meet the following criteria :

    Must-Haves :

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience, ideally full-cycle
  • Familiarity with wage garnishments and benefit deductions
  • Strong communication skills and comfort using Outlook, Teams, and Excel
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions
  • Desire to grow into a comprehensive in-house payroll role
  • Preferred :

  • Experience with high-volume payroll environments
  • Exposure to UKG and Sage Intacct systems
  • Understanding of journal entries
  • Timekeeping experience with a strong grasp of its connection to payroll
  • Tools & Systems

    The Payroll Specialist will work extensively with :

  • UKG HRIS and external timekeeping systems
  • Excel (basic functions required; pivot tables taught as needed)
  • Sage Intacct for expense and mileage reimbursements
  • Microsoft Teams for daily collaboration
