Content Strategist & Information Architect (UX Research)
Madison Ave. Collective (MAC) is seeking a skilled and motivated Content Strategist & Information Architect with 5+ years of experience to join our team. In this role, you will lead content strategy, information architecture, and UX research initiatives for complex organizational websites serving diverse public audiences.
Local candidates in Corvallis, Oregon, or Colorado Springs, Colorado, are preferred, with a preference for fully on-site work, though hybrid or remote arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. This is a full-time, salaried position open to U.S.-based candidates only.
Base Pay
$75,000.00 / yr - $95,000.00 / yr
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Planning & UX Strategy : Develop comprehensive content strategies that align with organizational goals and user needs for medium to large website projects (up to 1,000+ pages) built primarily in WordPress, with some projects in Modern Campus or other CMS platforms.
- Create content models, taxonomies, and governance frameworks that ensure scalability and consistency.
- Design intuitive information architectures for complex, multi-stakeholder websites that serve diverse public audiences.
- Design user experience strategies that inform site structure, user flows, and interaction design decisions.
- Produce user journey maps and other UX deliverables to communicate strategic recommendations.
- Research & User‑Centered Design : Lead user research initiatives including stakeholder interviews, user surveys, and usability testing to inform strategic decisions.
- Translate user research insights into actionable content strategy, information architecture, and UX recommendations.
- Facilitate workshops with diverse stakeholder groups to align on objectives and navigate complex organizational structures.
- Content Development & Copywriting : Write clear, user-centered website copy that aligns with content strategy and organizational voice.
- Develop messaging frameworks and content guidelines for website content.
- Create page-level content and microcopy for key user journeys and interface elements.
- Client Collaboration & Strategy Implementation : Work with Account Managers; act as a strategic liaison with clients in higher education, public transit, and community health, translating their needs into actionable content strategies and user experience plans.
- Ensure websites adhere to content strategy and UX best practices, including usability, performance, and compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
- Create detailed strategy documents, site maps, content models, and user experience frameworks.
- Contribute to process improvements and share insights to enhance strategic workflows, including the incorporation of AI tools.
What This Role Is Not
This position does not involve SEO optimization, website development or coding, visual UI design, or digital marketing campaign management.
Who You Are
Experience : 5+ years of content strategy, information architecture, or UX research experience, preferably in digital agency settings, with experience on large, complex websites strongly preferred. Proven copywriting ability with experience writing for web audiences.Technical Knowledge : Hands‑on experience with content strategy for WordPress websites; familiarity with Modern Campus or other CMS platforms is a plus.Skills : Strong research methodologies including mixed methods approaches; content modeling and taxonomy development; excellent copywriting with clarity and user focus; facilitation and presentation skills; proficiency with strategy and UX tools (Google Workspace, Miro, Figma, etc.); ability to manage complex stakeholder requirements and competing priorities; understanding of user‑centered design principles and how they inform content and IA decisions.Location : Preference for candidates local to Corvallis, OR, or Colorado Springs, CO, with a preference for fully on‑site work (hybrid or remote may be considered for the right candidate).Mindset : A collaborative, problem‑solving attitude aligned with our Rules of the Game : Do good work, Stay curious, Play well with others, and Be a good human.AI & Efficiency : Curiosity about and comfort with using AI tools to streamline research workflows, support strategic analysis, or increase productivity.Education / Certifications : A relevant degree or certifications are preferred but not required.Bonus Points : Portfolio demonstrating successful complex website strategy projects from discovery through planning phases, including content strategy work, information architecture, and written content samples; experience with stakeholder research methodologies and workshop facilitation; knowledge of website best practices, including WCAG accessibility compliance; experience writing for public sector or mission‑driven audiences; experience in higher education, community health, or public transit is a big plus; background working with mission‑driven organizations and public sector clients; experience collaborating closely with UX designers and developers to implement strategic recommendations; ability to create low‑fidelity wireframes in Figma.Why Join MAC
