Description : ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Transportation. The Transportation Manager / Route Coordinator will be responsible with leading their assigned transportation department and ensuring safe, reliable and prompt daily transportation for students. The TMRC is also responsible for creating bus routes for each new school year. The TMRC will also maintain updated bus routes throughout the school year. The TMRC will also be responsible for creating new routes for special programs upon the school’s request. Collaborate with the Transportation Manager to prepare, compile, and submit reports on weekly activities to the Director of Transportation (DoT). The TMRC will comply with all NC School Bus Safety laws in accordance with the NC Department of Transportation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide a safe, healthy, consistent, positive, caring environment for children and staff
- Communicate clear expectations, processes, and protocols for staff
- Conduct constructively, positive meetings with bus drivers not meeting expectations
- Complete timely clear and concise employee write-ups
- Effectively communicate, (i.e., emails, phone calls, and in person meetings), with School Leaders and DoO’s regarding any bus route changes.
- Develop positive working relationship with School Leaders, staff, students and parents that promotes :
- Positive student culture
- Happy and healthy staff
- Awareness of school and community needs
- Favorable and continuous feedback to improve
- Defines job performance expectations of staff
- Evaluate job performance
- Develop action plans to ensure expectations are professionally executed
- Recruit new school bus drivers
- Ensures all new employees have completed on boarding information
- Request criminal background and motor vehicle checks for perspective drivers
- Receive and review all Gaston and Halifax transportation invoices and entering into Bill.com for approval and payment
- Complete payroll for Gaston and Halifax Transportation department
- Complete State and Federal Fuel reimbursement applications
- Maintain documentation for quarterly alcohol and drug testing for bus drivers
- Communicate with the NC School Bus Trainer for CDL cancelations and NC DOT physical updates
Routing Coordinator – Transportation Information Systems (TIMS)
Establish bus routes for the school year for Gaston and HalifaxUpdate bus routes as needed, including adding or deleting school bus stopsPromptly create alternate bus stops for students when requested by parentCreates bus routes for special programs, such as summer school programs, midday runs for students with IEPs with early dismissal from the regular school hours, or after school programs.Update Northampton County map when needed using MARISAdd new developments using MARIS, which includes the following :Creating new street names and addressesSetting speed limits for school busesDetermine which streets are accessible for school busesRequirements :
Leadership and people management experienceIn depth familiarity with NC DOT and NC School Bus Safety compliance and lawsTransportation Information Management Systems (TIMS) skills (preferred)MARIS Certification from ITRE (Institute for Transportation Research and Education) (preferred)Microsoft Office and Google Docs Suite skills (preferred)Possess excellent written and oral communications skills
