With an annual budget of $2.2 million, we serve over 500 youth daily and reach more than 1,000 youth annually through our evidence-based programs grounded in social emotional wellness, academic confidence, and civic engagement. This position is part of Kid Powers strategic growth to expand our Washington, DC programming into Montgomery County, MD.

Position Summary :

The Program Coordinator for Montgomery County is a new and exciting opportunity to develop a program from the ground up, with support from a dedicated team of youth-serving professionals. The Program Coordinator will work with youth from both Montgomery County and Washington, DC. Responsibilities may evolve as the program grows and develops.

The Program Coordinator leads evidence-based mentoring programming at a high school in Montgomery County, MD including youth engagement, partnership support, mentor recruitment, group mentoring facilitation and one-to-one mentoring case management. This hybrid role involves direct youth interaction in schools and in the community and collaboration with school and Kid Power staff to ensure effective program setup and execution. The primary goal is to encourage youth and mentor participation, leading to high quality one-on-one mentor matching to support youth in reaching their goals.

Responsibilities :

Program Management and Delivery

  • Develop and lead a structured group mentoring program at a Montgomery County high school, ensuring a supportive environment for students.
  • Recruit youth and volunteer participants and promote engagement in the program.
  • Support youth, families and volunteers in the intake process.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 25 mentoring matches following national best practices for mentoring, conducting monthly check-in meetings to provide support and resources as needed. Match caseload will include both DC and Montgomery County-based matches.
  • Maintain an internal case management system with complete and accurate documentation of program activities.
  • Track outcomes for mentoring matches.
  • Collaborate with Kid Power staff to ensure effective program implementation.
  • Adapt program structure as needed to meet youth and community needs.

Communication and Relationship-Building

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with youth, their families, school staff, and community partners to create a safe and welcoming space for youth.
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Director for guidance and support.
  • General Support

  • Participate in weekly team meetings in Washington, DC, contributing to collaborative discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Support team members (AmeriCorps members, interns, and / or federal work study)
  • Support program staff in planning and delivery of programming.
  • Participate in organization-wide events.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education or a related field preferred, or relevant experience working with youth.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development, ideally in after-school or in-school settings.
  • The ability to communicate in Spanish at a conversational level; fluency is preferred.
  • Background in strengths-based, culturally responsive youth engagement.
  • Montgomery County native / history working in the region preferred. Experience or history working in the region is preferred.
  • Ability to travel between school sites and to team meetings in Washington, DC.
  • Proven ability to engage and connect with teenagers, fostering an environment where they can thrive.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Capable of working independently while also being a collaborative team player.
  • Benefits & Compensation :

  • Full-Time, $52,000-$56,000
