What You’ll Do 🔍
As an Actuarial Senior Manager at Athena, you’ll act as a lead consultant and account manager—driving projects from proposal to presentation and collaborating directly with internal and external stakeholders. You’ll help shape the future of our healthcare practice while developing high-performing teams and delivering client solutions that make a difference.
Key responsibilities include :
Lead and manage client accounts—ranging from small analyses to large consulting engagements
Serve as day-to-day client contact and strategic advisor, ensuring high-quality deliverables and alignment with client goals
Guide actuarial modeling, analysis, and review processes to ensure accuracy and consistency
Demonstrate listening, writing and speaking skills required to effectively and empathetically address diverse technical and nontechnical audiences in both formal and informal settings
Mentor and manage junior staff, supporting their growth through training and feedback
Partner with the leadership team to build and grow the healthcare areas of practice and develop the team that supports the impactful work we do for our clients
Assist with new business development, including attending / speaking at relevant industry conferences, writing articles and insight pieces for Athena’s website and outside publications, and assisting with proposal evaluation, drafting and review
Demonstrate exemplary levels of personal and professional integrity, and ability to support and promote Athena’s mission and values
Participate in Athena strategy meetings and providing feedback on Athena community initiatives
What We’re Looking For ✅
Must-Haves :
Ideal candidates have 10+ years of experience
Healthcare experience, which can include Medicaid, Tricare, employer health, etc.
ASA or FSA certification
Expertise in Actuarial Modeling, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word
In depth experience in Client and / or Project management
Successful experience in a consulting environment, managing multiple clients and accounts
Experience managing a team, creative problem-solving skills to identify flexible solutions to business questions
Insatiable curiosity and interest in learning new things
Experience and desire in developing junior resources through training and day-to-day collaboration
Proven track record in identifying new sales opportunities and driving revenue growth by strengthening existing client relationships.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and travel to client locations
Passion for growing a business from the bottom up through business development and strategic efforts
Role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal public trust clearance
Nice-to-Haves :
Experience with rate setting and related methodologies
Experience with health plan comparisons
Risk adjustment / scoring experience
Experience with Federal Health Agencies (e.g., HHS, CMS, AHRQ, etc.)
Experience in proposal writing or thought leadership publication
Involvement in industry conferences or speaking engagements
Familiarity with programming tools like SAS, SQL, or MacroVB
