Job Summary
Carney Engineering Construction, Inc. is seeking a skilled Pipelayer with experience in the installation of underground utilities, including sewer, water, fire, storm drain, and dry utility systems. The successful candidate will work on both private and public works projects, leading the installation process and ensuring the work meets high standards of quality and safety.
As a key team member, the Pipelayer will collaborate with other crew members and supervisors to complete projects on time and within specifications. If you are detail-oriented, take pride in your work, and have a strong understanding of utility installation, we encourage you to apply!
Key Responsibilities :
- Install various types of underground utilities, including water (C-900, ductile iron, CMLC), sewer (clay, PVC), storm drain (RCP, HDPE, SDR35), and dry utility duct systems (PVC).
- Lay out and install water services, fire hydrants, pipe connections, and related appurtenances.
- Align, position, and connect pipes while ensuring sealing of joints.
- Assist in locating and protecting existing utilities during the excavation process.
- Perform taps and tie-ins to existing water mains, manholes, and other utility structures.
- Pre-assemble pipe fittings for mainline installations, following project specifications and plans.
- Set up and maintain lasers to ensure accurate grade and pipe alignment.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, survey grade stakes, and local standard drawings related to underground utilities.
- Cut pipes to required lengths, install fittings and valves, and ensure proper assembly.
- Level trench bases using machinery or hand tools, and ensure proper pipe bedding and coverage.
- Safely install and remove trench shoring following OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe worksite, adhering to all company and regulatory safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Supervisor.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 3 years of experience in underground utility installation, with strong knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain, and dry utility systems.Proficient in the use of laser levels and grade rods to ensure accurate pipe installation.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, survey stakes, and utility plans.Experience working with tools and equipment necessary for pipe cutting, fitting, and installation.Strong communication and teamwork skills; bilingual skills are a plus.Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.Reliable transportation for traveling to job sites in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles counties.Must pass a drug screen and be legally eligible to work in the U.S.Strong work ethic, punctuality, and professionalism.Physical Requirements :
Ability to frequently bend, reach, stand, walk, and work in various positions.Capable of lifting or moving up to 50 pounds without assistance.Comfortable working in all weather conditions, including heat, dirt, and dusty environments.Good vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perceptions) and the ability to adjust focus.Must be able to push and pull heavy objects regularly.About Carney Engineering Construction, Inc.
