Role

Cable technicians work in homes and businesses to install and repair telecommunications cables, including phone lines, internet cables, and cable television. The role involves direct customer interaction and requires technical skills to use diagnostic equipment and tools. Technicians must perform quality control inspections on installations and maintain a good driving record with limited tickets. Ability to utilize a 28' ladder (75 lbs), work early / late hours, and drive a company vehicle safely are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Service and troubleshoot cable products.
  • Complete work orders and obtain signatures for billing.
  • Ensure installation quality standards are met.
  • Report to dispatch as per procedures.
  • Assist with overflow work.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Perform installation and quality control inspections.
  • Assist in training other technicians when needed.
  • Drive company vehicle safely.
  • Install HSD, cable, and phone services as per work orders.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and customers.
  • Manage time efficiently to meet scheduled deadlines.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Relevant education and experience vary, but the following are commonly required :

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Problem-solving skills involving multiple variables.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and handle abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with American units.
  • Ability to read and write simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, handle objects, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Maintain safety standards and a clean driving record.
  • Technical skills for self-assessment and continuous learning.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, written communication, teamwork, ethics, organizational support, judgment, professionalism, quality, quantity, safety, attendance, and dependability.
