PATIENT TRANSPORTER

Patient Transporter

The Transporter is expected to transport patients, non-patient materials, and visitors within the hospital.

Essential Job Functions

• Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.
• Introduce self to patient and explain transport plan and destination.
• Provide for appropriate mode of transportation considering the patient's condition, comfort, and any safety factors.
• Transfer patient to / from cart, wheelchair, or other transport vehicle according to procedure and is knowledgeable and effectively operates transport equipment.
• Identify patient prior to transport.
• Record patient transport through the use of capacity management on the patient care unit and in the ancillary department.
• Determine patient code status prior to transport.
• Use appropriate isolation techniques and comply with universal precautions.
• Store transport equipment appropriately throughout the day.
• Transport notification occurs predominantly by preset department patient schedules (i.e. physical therapy, radiology, etc.) or universally for inpatient transport via phone, pager.
• Assists in coordinating patient trips.
• Serve as greeter for visitors, patients and employees entering Excela Health.
• Perform other tasks as assigned / requested.
• Perform other duties as required.
