Description and Functions
Open until filled. Mainly responsible for weed and pest control, repairing irrigation systems, and managing inventory of supplies. Provide a safe, secure environment for building occupants and visitors. Perform general maintenance and miscellaneous tasks as directed. Designated as essential personnel for call-back duties after normal business hours, and may be required to adjust work shifts to accomplish specialized duties. Maintain grounds using hand or power tools or equipment and require team effort for heaving lifting at times.
Essential functions include performing specialized duties for irrigation systems / water management, and weed and pest management programs. Operates, repairs, adjusts, and installs a variety of complex equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on building facilities and grounds and assists other trades assistants and contractors on projects as required. May be required to adjust work shifts to accomplish specialist duties. Receives, maintains, and conducts an inventory of building and grounds supplies, assists with establishing the bi-annual budget, and purchases supplies needed. Performs calibration and mixing of various chemicals. Monitors water use, water budget, and schedule. Assists with the training of new employees in specialized and routine daily duties. Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools. Maintain landscaping in summer involving grass mowing, trimming, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flowers. Snow removal in the winter months. Moves furniture and sets up for functions and events. Provides recycling services to all State-owned and leased buildings.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to those applicants with three to five years of maintenance in grounds experience. Knowledge includes skills in oral & written communications, and ability to read and follow instructions. Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment, proper grounds equipment usage, irrigation systems and operation, weed and pest chemical use, safety procedures and protocols, operating a personal computer, flexibility, working with co-workers and customers, and dealing with difficult personalities professionally. Minimum qualifications include an Associate's Degree and 0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant or 2-4 years of progressive work experience with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant.
Necessary Special Requirements
Physical working conditions include exposure to hazardous chemicals, working in extreme weather conditions, ability to drive vehicles, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to pass a background check. Employment is subject to a successful applicant passing a background check.
