Job Summary :

Serves as the lead for Medical Staff Services across the UMMC Health System, overseeing the operational and administrative functions of the department. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity and efficiency of all credentialing processes, maintaining high standards of quality and compliance, resolving critical issues, and upholding all regulatory requirements.

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required : Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in medical staff / credentialing

Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required : N / A

Preferred Qualification : Master's Degree. Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist and Certified Professional Medical Services Manager certification from National Association Medical Staff Services

Responsibilities :

  • Manages the development and maintenance plans for medical staff functions to ensure that processes are appropriate, consistent, efficient, and compliant with regulatory body requirements.
  • Serves as an expert in the development and maintenance of electronic credentialing system, medical staff bylaws, medical staff policies and procedures, medical staff leadership development programs, processes for fair hearings, implementation of corrective actions, and continuous monitoring of peer review
  • Manages the medical staff initial and re-appointment credentialing and privileging application process for physicians, dentists, and advanced practice professionals for all health system facilities
  • Manages the delegated credentialing function, including compliance with contracts and submission of information to managed care companies delegated with UMMC.
  • Manages the telehealth credentialing function, including proxy privileging and submission of information for credentialing to health care entities with whom UMMC contracts for provision of telehealth services.
  • Makes recommendations for personnel selection and budgetary consideration; and develops and provides orientation, continuing education, and evaluation of personnel assigned to medical staff services.
  • Oversees preparation and distribution of medical staff committee meeting material and minutes and monitors content for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees the ongoing process for assessing regulatory compliance, including status reports of current compliance.
  • Manages the standard operations for OPPE and FPPE evaluations and reappointment quality profiles
  • Manages the efficiency of the credentialing process through the delegation of tasks to other medical staff services personnel.
