MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

MHI is hiring experienced Ship Repair Electricians . Depending on skill level, duties may include the following :

  • Analyzing jobs from start to finish ensuring proper and safe work methods used.
  • Analyzing circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices and systems.
  • Performing work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment under direction of supervisor.
  • Starting and shutting down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Installing conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires through conduit to terminals, such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels.
  • Striping insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron.
  • Connecting power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment.
  • Testing electrical characteristics such as voltage construct instrument panels, using hand tools, rulers, dividers, and power drills, following specification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Shipyard electrician.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of wire sizes and capacity of each.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of AC and DC power and control of same.
  • Must have knowledge of tools, equipment and machining processes of ship fitting trade.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
