The Field Support Engineer plays a key role in overseeing the successful installation, start-up, and commissioning of HVAC equipment (especially air handling units and chillers) across a variety of commercial projects. This position serves as a technical liaison between internal teams, contractors, and customers to ensure equipment is installed, started up, and functions according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. The role is in the field focused primarily on supervision, coordination, and quality assurance, rather than hands-on service. Hands-on installation and service experience is required as base knowledge.
What you'll do :
- Manage technically complex HVAC equipment projects from release through the start of the warranty period.
- Provide on-site guidance and training on installation standards, product updates, and start-up expectations.
- Visit job sites to inspect installations, provide contractor training, and resolve equipment issues before and after installation. You will be our first responder for troubleshooting field issues. Determining whether the issue is a warranty claim or installation / application error.
- Be on site for major equipment deliveries, or as assigned, to ensure shipping damage or factory defects are accounted for at the time of delivery. This will include photographs and notes on the Bill of Lading as required.
- Oversee pre-start-up, start-up and commissioning activities performed by contractors; validate system performance and compliance. This will include validating activities that were completed as required by the manufacturer Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual to ensure accountability of the installing parties.
- Become the technical expert for each of our manufacturers. This will be defined as having a high level of knowledge of all aspects of the Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manuals for all our manufacturers.
- Facilitate and schedule customer training on proper operation, maintenance, and safety procedures for installed equipment.
- Support warranty transition by validating that all start-up and commissioning steps are completed and documented. This will include collecting and organizing the required project documentation, photos, bill of lading, completed pre and post startup reports, and working with the team to get the proper warranty certificates for the project.
- Maintain organized documentation including installation verification, jobsite visit notes, and progress tracking in project management software / salesforce.
- Promote service contract opportunities and support aftermarket parts sales by collaborating with the service team.
- Obtain Factory Authorized Service certifications for supported product lines and remain current on technical developments.
- Coordinating the scheduling of service calls and equipment start-ups. Communicating throughout the entire process with the customer and following through to completion.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience :
High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, or related technical degree preferred or equivalent training and experience.Strong mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of HVAC systems.2+ years of experience with VRF systems and chiller systems (air-cooled and / or water-cooled).EPA Section 608 Certification preferred; understanding of refrigerant regulations and best practices is required to oversee compliance on job sites.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, submittals, and equipment specifications.Solid understanding of HVAC systems and equipment installation practices.Familiarity with project management tools and documentation practices.Experience overseeing subcontractors and service providers.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.High level of integrity and experience managing multiple priorities in the field with minimal supervision.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while operating independently and taking ownership of all tasks.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Teams.Physical Demands :
Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside / inside / heat / cold / day / night conditions.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for employer-based sponsorship currently or in the future.
