Requirements
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical schoolBoard-certified or board-eligible in PsychiatryActive and unrestricted medical license in Washington StateValid DEA registration and NPI numberMinimum of 2 years of clinical experience (correctional, forensic, or community psychiatry preferred)Familiarity with NCCHC standards and Washington mental health laws (e.g., RCW 71.05)Current CPR / BLS certification (AHA-approved)Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screeningExcellent communication, documentation, and risk assessment skillsResponsibilities
Conduct psychiatric evaluations and ongoing mental health assessments for incarcerated individuals.Prescribe, manage, and monitor psychotropic medications in alignment with clinical guidelines.Lead or participate in crisis intervention, including suicide risk assessments, withdrawal management, and behavioral decompensation.Collaborate with Mental Health Professionals (MHPs), medical staff, and custody personnel to ensure continuity of psychiatric care.Perform involuntary commitment evaluations and provide expert input on detainee treatment and placement decisions.Document psychiatric encounters promptly and accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).Contribute to treatment planning, discharge coordination, and reentry support for individuals with serious mental illness.Participate in mortality reviews, behavioral incident reviews, and quality improvement efforts as needed.Ensure compliance with NCCHC standards, RCWs / WACs, and facility-specific protocols and regulations.
