Overview
Health Information Management Manager (HIM Manager) – Location : Nashville Campus – Status : Full-Time – Hours : 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm, Monday - Friday (start time flexible). This is a key management role that combines strategic oversight with hands-on management to lead the HIM department and ensure high standards in medical recordkeeping, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
Summary
Responsible for maintaining all medical records in a manner consistent with Federal and State regulations, TJC standards, and Alive Hospice policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, evaluates and recommends changes to policies and procedures. Works with the Vice President, Organization Improvement to provide input with revisions for clinical documentation.
- Attends forms committee meetings, and other meetings as appropriate and needed, to provide input regarding the medical records process.
- Orients new employees to the medical records policies and procedures as needed.
- Audits patient discharge records for thoroughness and completeness and adherence to policies and procedures (e.g., appropriate signatures and dates, correct scanning and naming).
- Follows up on all delinquent documents, i.e. hospital records, discharge records, or continuous care notes, staff paper entries, etc.
- Supervises the work of Volunteers assisting in the medical records area.
- Checks and monitors status changes relating to patient\'s medical record and status. Notifies Director of Intake and / or Clinical Director and / or Director of Revenue Cycle of discrepancies.
- Maintains and records log of paper records at offsite storage unit.
- Takes and completes requests for medical records from outside sources, adhering to HIPAA, State and Federal guidelines for eligibility to receive records. Collects payment for records as appropriate.
- Makes requests for scatter bed patient medical records from contracted hospitals.
- Maintains the integrity of the agency\'s medical records system and the confidentiality of individual patient records.
- Works with Information Systems as needed related to Electronic Medical Records processes and training.
- Supervises work of Medical Records Assistant.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
Qualifications
Education and / or Experience
Associate\'s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be an Accredited Records Technician.
