Lab Manager

Lab Manager Location : Houston, TX Position Summary The Lab Manager will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring accurate and timely testing of polymer and resin-based products in compliance with ASTM and ISO 9001 standards. This role requires strong leadership, communication skills, and the ability to work closely with production, quality, and management teams to maintain consistency, build trust, and manage challenges in a high-paced manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day lab operations, testing, and quality control. Supervise and develop lab technicians (3+ across multiple shifts, including nights). Ensure compliance with ASTM, ISO 9001, and internal quality standards. Oversee polymer / resin testing, carbon black analysis, and other product testing. Maintain synchronization between in-house testing and third-party labs Support 24 / 5 (sometimes 24 / 7) production by providing accurate, timely lab results. Communicate results and issues clearly to plant management, manufacturing teams, and customers. Work with customers on quality assurance and technical questions. Prepare and present QC reports to leadership. Drive continuous improvement efforts in testing protocols and lab efficiency. Lead by example with proactive, detail-oriented, and responsive management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of experience in lab management or QC / QA in a manufacturing environment. Experience with polymers, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and extrusion processes strongly preferred. Familiarity with ASTM testing, ISO 9001 standards, and quality management systems. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and manage lab technicians across shifts. Excellent communication skills with both technical teams and management. Bilingual (English / Spanish) strongly preferred Work Environment & Schedule Full-time, onsite in Houston, TX Primarily day shift, but must be available to support lab operations across 24 / 5 production.
