Job Details

  • Clinical Nurse role providing safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to oncology patients at the Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Hospital.
  • Delivers patient care incorporating Relationship Centered Care and nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational nursing standards.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, applies critical thinking in patient care management.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team in care planning and evaluation.
  • Prioritizes patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
  • Educates patients and caregivers about care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicates professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manages assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
  • Role models Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care practices including Admission Welcome, Bedside shift Report, HELP AM / PM Care, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap Up, and MD / RN Unit Collaboration.
  • Considers patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs in care.
  • Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Uses evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiates service recovery and escalates concerns appropriately.
  • Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
  • Supports staff use of evidence-based practices to improve patient care understanding.
  • Conducts Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing the 4 Ps.
  • Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrates clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in oncology patient population.
  • Implements process improvement strategies based on institutional and evidence-based procedures.
  • Engages in peer and institutional review processes.
  • Collaborates on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research studies.
  • Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures.
  • Implements high reliability principles to avoid high risk behaviors and ensure patient safety.
  • Escalates potential safety hazards following institutional protocols.
  • Documents nursing practice using institutional information technology to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Job Requirements

  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) licensure required.
  • Competency in oncology nursing care.
  • Ability to apply nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Critical thinking skills in patient care management.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to educate patients and caregivers.
  • Experience with Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
