The New York Times is hiring : Senior Producer, Opinion Video in New York

Times Opinion is looking for a 12-month temporary Senior Producer to guide short-form digital video across the Vertical, Interactive and Podcast Video teams, and to lead special projects across Opinion Video, including Op-Docs.

You should have experience leading groundbreaking, original reporting, an eye for innovation, and the ability to lead a team producing original video commentary and reporting across a range of subjects and formats. You should be comfortable making sound editorial decisions, generating original ideas, and managing the work of journalists and editors. You will be the go-to resource for colleagues, providing editorial guidance and constructive feedback, and you should be comfortable working in a newsroom environment under intense pressure to ensure deadlines are met.

This is an in-office position, based in New York City and requires regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per departmental guidance.

Responsibilities :

Guide reporting, approve casting, frame and advance stories

Edit scripts and rewrites

Provide notes in edit and rough cut stages

Creative ideation and visual invention

Ensure smooth production with clear deliverables and deadlines

Guide and encourage producers to work to their maximum potential

Produce original video and experiment with new video formats

Manage the work of a team of journalists and editors

Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

Report to the Director of Opinion, Video

Basic Qualifications :

Excellent writing, editing and communication skills

Understanding of Times standards of journalistic excellence and truthfulness

Broad knowledge of current events and news

Deep curiosity about video habits, users and platforms

Familiarity with digital storytelling formats

Preferred Qualifications :

Hands-on experience in production, including editing, shooting and field production

The annual base pay range for this role is $135,000 – $150,000 USD.
