Surgery Turnover Tech, Part-time, Days
Samaritan Healthcare is seeking a Surgery Turnover Tech to serve within the surgical services team. This position is responsible for assisting the nursing units with clerical functions, intra- and inter-departmental communications, room turnovers, ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned. The Surgery Turnover Tech will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Perioperative Services along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates.
This is a part-time position working Monday-Friday from 11 : 30am-6 : 00pm.
Work Environment : The individual in this position reports to the Perioperative Services Director. This position works closely with all department staff in order to provide the highest and most reliable quality service on a daily basis.
Specific Accountabilities :
- Perform room turnovers. Assist with instrument turnover and wash instruments as time permits.
- Change bed linens on patient stretchers as necessary while patient is in OR.
- Assist with weekly and monthly housekeeping functions including defrosting the refrigerator on a regular basis.
- Assist Perioperative staff with patient transfers and restless patients.
- Assist with picking cases, putting away supplies and other Sterile Core Tech functions.
- Requests clarification on assignments as needed. Follows through and completes job assignments within agreed upon time frame.
- Perform inventory and ordering of supplies per list and / or as directed by leadership.
- Report any equipment that is not in working order to assigned RN.
- Delivers specimens and tests to appropriate areas.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operation of hospital beds, gurneys, wheelchairs, Geri-chairs, the Hoyer lift, and other mechanical equipment.
- Make sure siderails are up, unless considered unnecessary by the assigned RN. Make sure bed brakes are on.
- Knowledge of call light system and telephone paging.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to : security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
- Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
- Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
- Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
- Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, are handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
Position Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or GED.Experience : One year Housekeeping experience preferred.Skills / Competencies : Good communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology. Basic computer skills preferred (MS Word / Excel). Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist. Critical thinking skills : Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making. Practices within legal and ethical guidelines.Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers / patients across the age continuum.Physical Requirements :
Frequent and at times prolonged standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and pulling.Manual dexterity.Heavy physical effort, ability to lift / carry up to 50 lbs.
