The Program Manager I for Student Health and Wellness plays a vital role in supporting MCW's learners through compassionate counseling, proactive wellness programming, and strong connections to care.

In this role, you'll serve as a trusted resource for students navigating academic and personal challenges. You'll provide short-term, solution-focused counseling, coordinate wellness initiatives across our campuses, and maintain meaningful partnerships with internal and external organizations that promote holistic health.

Primary Functions

  • Listen to students' concerns, triage ongoing and emergent situations with students, refer students with mental health concerns to appropriate health care providers and provide resources as appropriate.
  • Complete intake assessments and develop appropriate plans.
  • Interface with appropriate care facilities to ensure further care can be provided.
  • Maintain and participate in Quality Assurance activities.
  • Maintain counseling programming within the schools including peer counseling activities as well as other prevention and wellness activities.
  • Provide services to regional campus students.
  • Serve as a general student services resource navigator to assist all MCW students with locating varied resources across campus and the community.
  • Coordinate services and continuity of support for students who take a leave of absence and provide re- acclimation to school and support services when students return from a leave of absence.
  • Provide educational presentations and training programs to students.
  • Work closely with MCW Student and Resident Behavioral Health to develop and distribute student mental health and wellness assessments.
  • Manage, compile and distribute summaries of participant data, event attendance and student mental health and wellness data to institutional stakeholders, to ensure proper detailed program evaluation.
  • Assist the assistant provost for Student Services in the development and monitoring of annual student wellness budget.
  • Participate in wellness-related student and staff 2210.committees (Wellness Collaborative, Graduate School Wellness Committee, Student Leadership Collective Wellness Sub-Committee, Suicide Prevention Council, Student Engagement Task Force, Higher Learning Commission QI Committee)
  • Participate as Learning Community support member (student wellness focus).
  • Keep detailed, confidential progress notes of 1 : 1 student counseling sessions.
  • Create partnerships with community agencies and organizations to provide wellness programming and support to students (e.g., Milwaukee Urban Ecology Center, Vivent Health, Toned Body Fitness, Hypefusion Fitness, Alchemy Yoga, Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee, SPARK- American Lung Association, NAMI Wisconsin, HER Wellness, ComPsych).
  • Develop creative program materials, including promotional items and communicate clearly and effectively student wellness opportunities through multiple venues, such as developing and maintaining monthly student wellness calendars and podcasts.
  • Preparation and submission of grants and subsequent reporting requirements, as opportunities arise and are appropriate. (e.g., SPARK Microgrant, SPARK Scholarship for "Freedom from Smoking" Facilitator Training)
  • Manage the Counselor Internship Program in partnership with Marquette University, including onboarding new interns. Meet with Marquette University faculty (minimum- three times per calendar year) to discuss counselor internship program effectiveness and performance of counselor intern.
  • Provide direct, individual weekly clinical supervision for interns from the Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.S. program (Marquette University). Provide ongoing, regular feedback and evaluation to intern on the quality and timeliness of their work as well as their caseload.
  • Develop and manage online student wellness course, including content, learning objectives, and evaluation (pre and posttests, reflection assignments, etc.).
  • Provide support, consultation, and education to staff and faculty related to strategies and resources to support students' wellbeing (via 1 : 1 meetings and presentations).
  • Keep abreast of current national wellness initiatives and activities.
  • Manage contracts and Memorandums of Understanding with community partners (e.g., Pets Helping People, Urban Ecology Center, Early Alert, etc.).
  • Maintain LPC licensure through completing required continuing education.
  • Maintain wellness related spaces (Student Wellness Lounge, Meditation room) on campus, in collaboration with the Student Facilities Committee.
  • Monitor utilization of Student Assistance Program (Com Psych / Guidance Resources) and Early Alert.

    Position Requirements :

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum 3,000 post-graduate supervised hours and experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in good standing.
  • Experience supervising counseling students or early-career professionals.
  • Experience in higher education or with adult learners.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience providing counseling in short-term or crisis settings.
  • Certification in AODA or SBIRT preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and programs.
