Overview

CSDB is a Deaf and Blind-led academy where language, leadership, and learning converge to generate agency. Grounded in lived experience, students develop presence, purpose, and wayfinding in a space built for growth, pride, and authenticity.

Aspiration : CSDB builds generations of thinkers, makers, and leaders who set new standards and transform the world. The Facilities Services work unit exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) facilities and campus according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes a safe, sanitary and effective environment for students and staff and enhances the quality of life in CSDB facilities and on campus. The facilities managed by the Facilities Services work unit include 34 acres of land and 17 buildings comprised of 296,484 square feet.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and complete preventive maintenance and work requests efficiently utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Perform general duties including carpentry, roof inspection / maintenance / repair, furniture repair, construction, window glazing / repair, tile, painting, lock and key maintenance, door and hardware maintenance, access control maintenance and building automation control maintenance.
  • As an essential employee, report early as necessary to remove snow and ice from walkways, entryways, sidewalks, and parking lots using snow removal equipment and applying salt / sand to ensure safe walking conditions.
  • May be required to work extended school / work hours and / or days as directed to support campus needs. Exposed to adverse working, climate, and weather conditions.
  • Move furniture and perform special setups including setting up chairs, tables, audio / video equipment, temporary stages for events, meetings, and in-services; ensure event setup and teardown is completed accurately and timely.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only : Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

OR

Education and Experience : A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and / or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Locksmith experience
  • Roof maintenance and repair experience
  • Special Qualifications

  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force. This position requires heavy lifting (following appropriate safety requirements).
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to utilize various computer software applications (email, internet, word processing, calendar, presentations, spreadsheets, databases, etc.).
  • Willingness to stay current and develop skills with or without direct CSDB support.
  • Ability to respond to feedback; work in a team setting and independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Courteous, professional, and helpful attitude as a CSDB representative.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at NOVICE level, or willingness to attain proficiency within a specified period, as demonstrated by an assessment tool and CSDB policy / procedures.
  • Appeal Rights

    An applicant who has been removed from an employment list or from consideration during the selection process may request a review by the State Personnel Director. You may file a written appeal with the State Personnel Director. The appeal process will be timely based on the submitted materials using the official appeal form. The form must be completed and delivered to the State Personnel Board by email within ten (10) calendar days from receipt of notice or acknowledgement of the Department's action.
