Aviation Deicing Equipment Mechanic

Join Inland Deicing Services (IDS) at Pittsburgh International Airport and keep winter operations moving safely. If you love solving mechanical puzzles and keeping specialized vehicles mission-ready, this role is for you.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay : $28.00 per hour (full-time)
  • Winter Operations (Oct–Apr) : Rotating shifts based on operational needs
  • Shoulder Season (May–Sep) : Four 10-hour days, Monday–Thursday, 05 : 00–15 : 30

A Day in the Life

Start your day reviewing the maintenance plan for our deicer trucks, GRV (Glycol Recovery Vehicle) units, support vehicles, and ground service equipment. You’ll diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues, perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, and keep meticulous records of every repair. You’ll read schematics, parts catalogs, drawings, and manuals to guide your work. Throughout the day, you’ll coordinate local maintenance scheduling to maximize reliability, tackle urgent repairs to meet flight schedules, and collaborate with teammates and airport partners to keep our fleet dependable.

What You’ll Do

  • Own local maintenance scheduling and performance to ensure equipment dependability
  • Execute skilled maintenance and repairs following recognized procedures
  • Use manuals, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and parts catalogs to complete assignments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and hydraulic problems within established timeframes
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records; perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections
  • What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years old
  • Effective verbal communication and hearing; able to read, write, understand, and provide direction in English
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
  • Personal tool set : sockets / wrenches up to 1 inch size and up to 1 / 2 inch drive
  • Strong time management and organization to juggle multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of fluid types, diesel-powered machines, tools, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Professional tact with employees and client representatives at all levels
  • Proficiency with standard and specialty tools and test equipment (photo tachometer, diagnostic tools and hardware, scanners, meters)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel on temporary duty to other IDS airport stations as needed (TDY)
  • Work Environment

  • Physically demanding; extended periods standing and working around heavy moving equipment
  • Exposure to noise, safe but occasionally unpleasant odors, varying temperatures and humidity

  • Use of hands for handling tools / controls; reaching with hands and arms; effective speech and hearing
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling
