Aviation Deicing Equipment Mechanic
Join Inland Deicing Services (IDS) at Pittsburgh International Airport and keep winter operations moving safely. If you love solving mechanical puzzles and keeping specialized vehicles mission-ready, this role is for you.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay : $28.00 per hour (full-time)
- Winter Operations (Oct–Apr) : Rotating shifts based on operational needs
- Shoulder Season (May–Sep) : Four 10-hour days, Monday–Thursday, 05 : 00–15 : 30
A Day in the Life
Start your day reviewing the maintenance plan for our deicer trucks, GRV (Glycol Recovery Vehicle) units, support vehicles, and ground service equipment. You’ll diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues, perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections, and keep meticulous records of every repair. You’ll read schematics, parts catalogs, drawings, and manuals to guide your work. Throughout the day, you’ll coordinate local maintenance scheduling to maximize reliability, tackle urgent repairs to meet flight schedules, and collaborate with teammates and airport partners to keep our fleet dependable.
What You’ll Do
Own local maintenance scheduling and performance to ensure equipment dependabilityExecute skilled maintenance and repairs following recognized proceduresUse manuals, schematics, blueprints, drawings, and parts catalogs to complete assignmentsTroubleshoot and resolve electrical and hydraulic problems within established timeframesMaintain accurate maintenance records; perform scheduled and unscheduled inspectionsWhat You Bring
High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years oldEffective verbal communication and hearing; able to read, write, understand, and provide direction in EnglishBasic to intermediate computer skillsPersonal tool set : sockets / wrenches up to 1 inch size and up to 1 / 2 inch driveStrong time management and organization to juggle multiple prioritiesKnowledge of fluid types, diesel-powered machines, tools, repair, and maintenanceAbility to handle confidential information appropriatelyProfessional tact with employees and client representatives at all levelsProficiency with standard and specialty tools and test equipment (photo tachometer, diagnostic tools and hardware, scanners, meters)Valid driver’s licenseAbility to travel on temporary duty to other IDS airport stations as needed (TDY)Work Environment
