Overview
The Training Department Supervisor is a key member of the Production Management team responsible for building and sustaining a structured training program that supports safe operations, consistent skill development, and workforce capability growth. This role leads training and development programs across all production shifts, supervising Training Assistants to ensure effective onboarding, cross-training, and leadership development. The position requires flexibility to work across all three shifts based on business training needs, and may occasionally provide floor coverage in the absence of Production Supervisors to support operations. Partnering closely with supervisors and department leaders, this role ensures training initiatives are aligned with plant performance goals and continuous improvement priorities.
Responsibilities
- Design, schedule, and deliver training programs for new hires and existing employees.
- Integrate safety into all training activities.
- Supervise and coach Training Assistants in delivering, documenting, and evaluating on-the-job training.
- Create and maintain accurate, accessible SOPs and Redzone plays.
- Administer compliance training (GMPs, safety, and regulatory requirements).
- Maintain accurate and compliant training records.
- Ensure consistent onboarding, cross-training, and progression opportunities.
- Partner with Supervisors, PSS, and managers to identify skill gaps and implement training solutions.
- Deliver training on accident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Adjust work schedule as needed to provide training coverage across shifts.
- Provide targeted leadership training for Supervisors and PSS, focusing on problem solving, coaching, and accountability.
- Support operations by providing floor coverage when Production Supervisors are absent.
- Champion safety by embedding documentation control into all training processes.
- Lead structured onboarding with a strong focus on safety and compliance as needed.
- Ensure safety documentation is accurate, accessible, and actively used to improve practices.
- Partner with Supervisors and PSS to reinforce safety accountability through regular documentation reviews and refreshers.
- Develop tools and metrics to measure training effectiveness and business impact.
- Apply training standards consistently across shifts and departments.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Sanitation, and QA to align training with plant goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education And Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in organizational development, education, industrial management / psychology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is preferred.Experience in technical training programs development to include curriculum development preferred.1-3 years' demonstrated experience in a training leadership capacity with an emphasis on Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing Operations, or Technical Leadership.Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Must possess strong training / facilitation skills.Must be able to effectively manage time, be self-motivated and a self-starter with minimal supervision with a strong attention to detail.Must have strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Computer proficiency in Windows-based software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) required.Must be able to build effective relationships quickly across departments and create environment of accountability and excellence in training and development.Familiarity with Learning Management Systems required; experience in implementation of systems preferred.Flexibility to work across shifts with occasional weekend support as needed.Proven experience gaining alignment across organizational boundaries to drive business results.Demonstrated ability to create a training vision and execute strategies to achieve that vision as a change agent.Exceptional organizational ability, process orientation, and bias for action in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Demonstrated ability to communicate, connect and engage at all levels of the organization.Awareness of modern adult learning methods and expertise in using technology to drive learning outcomes.Physical Requirements
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment while performing job (safety glasses, ear plugs, bump cap, hair net, steel toe boots, autoclave gloves, goggles).May be required to work in hot environments (up to 102 degrees Fahrenheit) for intervals of 45 minutes.May be required to work in cold and / or wet environments (0 degrees Fahrenheit).Must be able to constantly stand, stoop, walk, bend, push or pull for duration of shift, up to 12 hours.May be required to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.May work in Production or Warehouse storage areas and may climb ladders / stairs.Must have visual acuity to perform possible pre-op duties and / or read paperwork and labels.Equal Employment Opportunity
