Position Description

Supervise labor forces in the repair, restoration, rehabilitation and maintenance of municipal parking ramps, parking lots and skyways.

Salary :

The anticipated starting salary for this position is : $41.70 - 45.57 / hour, depending on qualifications.

Work Location :

This position regularly works onsite and in the field.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the repair, restoration and rehabilitation of municipal parking ramps, including removal and replacement of concrete sidewalks, post tensioned floors, beams, columns and ceilings.
  • Supervise the installation, repair and maintenance of concrete in Police Stations, Fire Stations, Garages, Warehouses, etc.
  • Direct the installation of trench drains.
  • Direct the cleaning of concrete floors with hgh and low-pressure water blasters and sealing of decks and / or membranes.
  • Direct the repair of guardrails, handrails, floor tiles, doors, expansion joints, crack sealing, etc.
  • Coordinate and direct miscellaneous painting, stall striping, graffiti removal and installation of security fencing.
  • Supervise staff in snow and ice removal.
  • Coordinate the inspection of facilities via chain dragging, sounding and visual inspections to identify concrete failure, including delaminating, scaling and cracking to perform necessary repairs.
  • Assist the supervisor in planning, organizing and directing labor and cement finishers to perform work tasks including maintaining daily records, ordering supplies and materials and enforcing policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Working Conditions :

    Office and outside elements to include loud noise, dust, dirt, and hazardous materials.

    Required Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    High School Diploma or equivalent

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :

    Three years experience in concrete repair, including preparation of concrete substrate for repair and replacement

    LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS :

    Valid Minnesota Driver's License

    Selection Process

    The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps : a rating of relevant education and experience and / or an oral examination (100%) . It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (80%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

    Background Check

    The City has determined that a criminal background check and / or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and / or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

    Medical Exam

    After a conditional job offer, candidates will be required to pass a medical examination which includes a physical screening.

    Eligible List Statement

    The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.

    Interview Selection

    The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of concrete construction building systems with specialized knowledge of post tensioned concrete structures.
  • Knowledge of post tension cable-tensioning techniques, both from a repair and new construction perspective.
  • Product application knowledge of EFIS.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and software used in the assigned area.
  • Mechanical skills to maintain and operate specialized equipment such as water blasters, paint sprayers, concrete saws, chipping hammer, etc.
