Qualifications

Education and Experience for Exceptional Entry Police Officers :

• Must have basic law enforcement academy or peace officer certification that is equivalent to the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy and
• Must be or of have been sworn in as a police officer with less than 24 months of continuous service within the last four years.
• Must have high school diploma or GED certificate; Preferred education or experience :
• Associate of Arts degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field from an accredited college; or
• Completion of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited college or university; or
• Two (2) years of military experience; or
• Two (2) years as a full-time, sworn, law enforcement officer.

Selection Process : Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have completed Public Safety Testing's Personal History Questionnaire requirements may advance to the next steps in the selection process. Interview : Applicants who meet the minimum requirements may be invited to participate in the testing process which includes an oral interview, which requires a passing score of 70%. This is a continuous recruitment and applications will be screened as openings occur. A City of Redmond application, veteran's preference form and college education statement must be completed. Those requesting "veteran's preference" must complete the appropriate form at the time of the oral interview and provide a copy of their DD214. Reapplication : Applicants who fail one of the phases of the testing process are eligible to reapply for this position after six (6) months from the date of examination. Applicants who fail a component of the background process are eligible to reapply for this position after eighteen (18) months from the date removed from the eligibility list.
