Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and services for handicapped students who have been identified in an Individualized Education Program and are assigned to a special day class.
• Attend placement / IEP meetings for students who may need the program services of a special day class.
• Participate in academic testing.
• Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs to provide students' mainstreaming opportunities.
• Monitor student's progress, coordinate the review and revision of their Individualized Education Programs, and refer students to the IEP team, if appropriate.
• Consult with appropriate teachers and administrators for the development of prevocational and / or vocational plans for handicapped students.
• Coordinate and monitor the activities of paraprofessional instructional personnel assigned.
• Provide information and assistance to students and to their parents.
• Attend and participate in school faculty meetings, special education staff meetings, and other meetings as required.
• Maintain professional competence through participation, as directed in inservice activities provided by the District.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Desirable Qualifications

Techniques and resources utilized in assessing, instructing, and evaluating students.

Possession of a valid Education Specialist credential.
