Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction and services for handicapped students who have been identified in an Individualized Education Program and are assigned to a special day class.
- Attend placement / IEP meetings for students who may need the program services of a special day class.
- Participate in academic testing.
- Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs to provide students' mainstreaming opportunities.
- Monitor student's progress, coordinate the review and revision of their Individualized Education Programs, and refer students to the IEP team, if appropriate.
- Consult with appropriate teachers and administrators for the development of prevocational and / or vocational plans for handicapped students.
- Coordinate and monitor the activities of paraprofessional instructional personnel assigned.
- Provide information and assistance to students and to their parents.
- Attend and participate in school faculty meetings, special education staff meetings, and other meetings as required.
- Maintain professional competence through participation, as directed in inservice activities provided by the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of :Techniques and resources utilized in assessing, instructing, and evaluating students.
Diagnostic needs, behavioral techniques and appropriate learning materials for classroom use.Developing cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Education :Possession of a valid Education Specialist credential.
