Overview
NBC Nightly News is looking for a driven, detail-oriented Production Assistant to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a motivated early-career journalist to learn the core skills of broadcast news production and contribute to our flagship program, which delivers trusted journalism to millions of viewers every weekend. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who thrives under deadline and has a deep interest in a career in journalism. You’ll work closely with producers, editors, and the control room team to support the broadcast from pitch to air.
Responsibilities
- Assist producers with sourcing visual elements, including video and graphics
- Clear footage and social content for air across broadcast and digital platforms
- Help coordinate logistics for shoots, including travel and field production support
- Develop basic Avid and desktop editing skills
- Support the production team in the control room during live broadcasts
- Assist with newsroom operations, including graphics coordination and video management
- Pitch and research story ideas
- Be available to support breaking news and other editorial needs as assigned
Qualifications
1+ year of experience in a newsroom or live broadcast environment (internship or freelance experience acceptable)Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceStrong news judgment and a keen interest in national and international newsFamiliarity with iNewsAbility to shoot and edit short video content for use in broadcast or digitalMust be able to work weekends and flexible hours, including evenings and holidays as neededMust be willing to work in person in New York CityDesired Characteristics
