Responsibilities include examining and reviewing plans, specifications, and drawings of buildings, structures, and alterations in commercial and residential construction. The role involves evaluating proposed building plans to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, environmental, floor hazard, energy, handicap requirements, and related codes.
The candidate researches codes and ordinances, investigates problems and complaints related to building and code compliance, and responds to complex issues involving commercial and residential buildings. Staying current on code requirements and new developments in architectural and engineering fields through reading technical journals and coursework is essential.
The role involves explaining, interpreting, and guiding design professionals, architects, engineers, developers, property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding applicable Building Codes. Site visits may be required to resolve issues.
The position represents the department at hearings before the Board of Building Appeals, providing necessary details and justifications for disapproval actions.
Additional duties of similar nature or level may be assigned.
